Cindy appreciates this more than most as she has had to overcome life-changing illness to achieve her ambitions. She has kindly taken time out of her busy schedule to share her experiences with us. How dramatic was the illness that caused you to change from your original profession to becoming an author? It was devastating and confusing. I had no idea what was wrong with me. I got sick all the time and was missing way too much work.

I kept falling asleep at my desk. I was sick for my bridal shower and during my honeymoon. I finally ended up in the ER with an enlarged liver and spleen, Mononucleosis and Epstein-Barr virus. The doctor said I had to make a life-changing decision about my future. He said I needed total bed rest.
However after a month of following his instructions, I was even worse. Despite seeking the help of thirteen different doctors, no one could tell me what was wrong with me. I finally had to quit my job. The illness continued to progress. What inspired you to turn around the situation into a positive step by entering the world of fiction? My self-esteem and self-worth plummeted and depression set in. My husband was working and pursuing hobbies. I felt alone, isolated and down-right bored to death.
I needed something else with which to think of in my life. I got a yellow writing tablet and started writing. Articles and stories soon turned into a book. Sometimes I could barely move my hand across the paper, but I felt such a rush of accomplishment. Then I rescued and adopted a Wire-haired Fox Terrier puppy and my life began to change in the most positive ways. Living in Utah, I have enjoyed the most beautiful diverse landscape that has made the setting for every book unique without leaving the state.
I began taking classes, joining writing groups, and doing tons of rewrites on the same book. Although doctors said I would never have children, I found myself in a high-risk pregnancy. Motherhood took everything I had, and when my son was eighteen months he was diagnosed with learning disabilities and special needs. Another child followed three years later, and he was also special needs. My writing was on hold until one day when I read Seabiscuit by Laura Hillenbrand and found out she had one of the illnesses I had.
It totally inspired me to seek publication, and I began writing again and submitting to publishers. I published three books with a publisher but later pulled my rights and published with Sweet Cravings Publishing. I have seven full-length books published with them, not including the two additional books in A Merchant Street Mystery series that will follow. I also have independently published three novellas, one novelette, and a non-fiction book on writing.
When starting a new novel do you begin with the title, plot outline or character profiles? Or just a blank page and the first word? I start with a plot idea and have a whole batch of worksheets I fill out before actually beginning to write. I want readers to know exactly what they are going to get from one of my books, especially since I write outside the box.

As part of my marketing plan, I developed a list and post it in as many places as I can. Here it is:. I am right in the middle of my first series. Hunting for Happenstance is about high-spirited Daniela Estrada. Instead, while her Uncle Benito is deer hunting, he ends up missing and the area is swarming with aggressive black bears which holds up the search party. Duston and his dog, Ruger, have helped the police on other cases, and he is training a Karelian Bear dog.
Will he help Daniela find her uncle? Duston adores Daniela but secrets about his brother prevent him from getting close to anyone. He believes that if something is meant to be, it will just happen. I already have plot ideas for other books and plan to continue writing and helping abused and abandoned dogs. Without everything she did, we would all be dead. Without her, all our families would be dead. I am eternally grateful to her for everything she has done for us. I want to let her know how thankful I am. Eli stared at the floor then looked back up to his new friends, who sat in a semi-circle, facing him.
Eli described his trip to get to Innsbruck and how close he was to never finding Florianne. He told them about the Vespa ride up the mountainside and his companion, Urich. It felt like, in her voice, hundreds of men and women from across the ages were speaking directly to me. It was the most incredible experience. In the soft glow of the generator-powered light bulbs that lit the bunker, as Avery, Remi and Toni looked on, Eli begun to tell the most important story they would ever hear.

Mission of Love blurb. A nontraditional Amish man called to minister to the inner-city youth. An overwhelmed Amish woman terrified of the idea. Spring is a long way in coming to the Big Sky country of Montana, and Lyddie Hershberger is still living in the winter of her life. First her husband died a little more than a year earlier, then Lyddie lost their unborn child. Now, an accident sends her father-in-law to the hospital clinging to his life. Will the gloom of winter ever leave their West Kootenai community?
As Lyddie and Thomas struggle to understand why someone wishes their family harm, old feelings of love resurface.
The top bidder in the Amish silent auction wins a day of yardwork from Marty and two of his friends. Marty is shocked to when she offers him money to turn her granddaughter Amish. He refuses, but when Olivia and her grandmother both end up missing, Marty is fingered for the crime. How can he ever prove his innocence when all the clues the police find point to his guilt? Mission of Love by Laura V. Hilton tells the story of an Amish minister who us called outside of his comfort zone, to minister to inner-city youth.
And we learn of a woman that feels she has that same calling to help. And you just imagine what the two of them have to endure? But Laura V. Hilton does what she so professionally gives her readers, and that is a lot of twists and turns in a story that will have you asking for more. I love Ms. And I have all of them too! Bid For Love by Rachel J. With a bit of suspense here, you will love the twists and turns here, taking you on a journey that me a little confused at times, not by the writing, but by the actions of the characters. My prayer is that you will love it as much as I do!
Lyddie has had her share of heartaches and difficulties the past year or so and is ready for a change. But it seems that is not going to happen any time soon. Someone wishes bad upon her family and Mary Alford writes a wonderful story surrounding the lives of Lyddie and her family and community, and the journey it takes to find the love, joy and understanding underneath layers of bitter and guilt, along with redemption and forgiveness. All three of these stories are a wonderful addition to your library. This is a book you must have if you love Amish fiction. I give this book 5 stars.
Laura V. Hilton is an award-winning, sought-after author with thirty Amish, contemporary, and historical romances. Laura and her pastor-husband have five children and a hyper dog named Skye. They currently live in Arkansas. One son is in the U. Coast Guard. Her favorite season is winter, her favorite holiday is Christmas.
Good writes life-changing, heart-tugging novels of faith, hope, and forgiveness. The bestselling author of several Amish romance series, she grew up near Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the setting for many of her stories. Striving to be as authentic as possible, she spends time with her Amish friends, doing chores on their farms and attending family events. Rachel has more than 40 books in print or forthcoming for both children and adults under several pen names.
Mary Alford is a bestselling author of over fifteen novels who loves giving her readers the unexpected. Random Thoughts From a Bookworm , June After her father falls ill, Lizzie Miller and her family desperately need help to keep the farm going during harvesttime. Neighbor Paul Burkholder is eager to lend a hand—and to court Lizzie. But Paul has a secret that he fears could push Lizzie away. Can they finally heal from a tragedy in their pasts…and open their hearts to each other?
The accident also left Lizzy with a horrible scar across her face, a scar that kept her home on their Farm so no one would be able to see what she looks like. No one but their neighbor Paul that is. Paul has always been there for her no matter what. Would their spending so much time together cause feelings to happen between the two of them? This is such a sweet story, despite the hurt and difficult feelings that comes with losing a brother and young child.
Since Amish dads like to control their families so strongly, this caused a lot of friction and tension between Paul and Lizzie as well as both of their families. I feel the author deals with this and an exceptional way. Author Tracey Lyons has created a beautiful story of love, forgiveness and Redemption, with realistic characters and their development throughout the story.
If you love Amish fiction then this is a story that you will love to read. This is a novella, so you will be able to read it and just a few hours.

This is also Ms. And to make the story a little sweeter, there is a recipe for the double treat cookies at the end of the book. You can follow Tracey on twitter TraceyJLyons. Rate this:. Since her sister was kidnapped by river pirates six months ago, Alanah Adams has taken special care to avoid drawing attention to herself. But when she stumbles into Caleb and his friends in Natchez, she appears to be the picture-perfect lady. Caleb only catches glimpses of the mysterious and beautiful Alanah before she disappears.
Read a PDF Excerpt. Caleb has not seen his brothers in such a long time. What kind of reunion can we expect in this third book in the Natchez Trace series? I was on the edge of my seat as I anticipated the reunion of Caleb with his brothers.
More titles to consider
Having left his younger brothers with no contact whatsoever, it could have gone either way. And you really need to read this book and not review spoilers to find the answer! I enjoyed getting to know Caleb, even though he was difficult at times, his help around the land was certainly useful. But still, I had a hard time putting the book down because I had to know what was around the next turn.
Again, author Pam Hillman writes an amazing story! Now I plan to read the series again, all together. I highly recommend A Crossing at Cypress Creek for your reading enjoyment. This is a series you want to read, and a journey that will leave you thinking about it long after you finish the last book. Born east of the Mississippi and a hundred years too late, Pam still boasts of wrangling calves, milking cows and putting up hay, first as a child, and later with her own personal hero, Iran, on their family farm in Mississippi.
A voracious reader as a child, Pam especially enjoyed stories involving the great Westward expansion, and television shows such as Bonanza, Little House on the Prairie, and Gunsmoke. What will it cost this bodyguard to save the woman he loves? Bodyguard, Tate Marshall, has always been the family troublemaker. A member of the country band, the Yankee Belles, Glo was targeted in a recent terrorist attack designed to deter her mother from running. As the campaign heats up and the threats deepen, so does the attraction between Tate and Glo.
And what will Glo do to keep from losing another man to the costs of war? Which I think makes the story and the characters more realistic and believable. Struggles, this is real life. And a story that shows the Christian life within the characters of the book. As this story, Tate does. I love the Tate character, and they way he is willing to go out of his way y help others. And his relationship with Glo is really like so many real relationships are, I love that it is so realistic. And I highly recommend this book to those looking for a sweet buy deeply written story.
Over the years, writing has become, for me, a way to praise God and see Him at work in my life. Although I have a degree in Mass Communications from the University of MN, my real writing experience started when I penned the The Warren Report — a bi-monthly newsletter that detailed our ministry highlights. I grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.
God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings — and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him. I love getting mail, especially from readers and I welcome your questions and comments. Thank you for your interest and support. We hope you enjoyed the tour! Launch — Note from the Author. And now that her sister is gone, it is up to Popi to step up and raise the child of her heart. Her life was about to change in so many ways, as the baby was due in a couple of weeks.
And then the thought of something going wrong with the wedding had her rushing out of the bathroom in her fluffy, short pink robe that barely fit over her baby bump and with a large portion of her hair pulled up in a big orange clip. Locks, Hooks and Books — Review. I can not wait to find out what happens next in the third addition to the Greek Island Brides series. Thoughts of a Blonde — Excerpt. Apollo Drakos stood slack-jawed as the woman sashayed down the hallway, but to be honest her sashay was more like a waddle.
A cute waddle, but still a waddle all the same. His attorney had assured him the baby was born, though no one had been able to tell him if it was a boy or girl. Not that it mattered to him. Either way, he was still claiming his niece or nephew. Two Points of Interest — Review. I enjoyed reading and finding out the backstory of each character especially the mysterious Apollo. A definite must-read for anyone who loves romance novels.
E-Romance News — Excerpt. Popi was the maid of honor, or koumbara, and it was her responsibility to see that the bride was ready on time. Because an odd number of attendants was good luck. And three attendants were the best. Together they worked until Lea was all done up with her long hair pulled up with just a few strategically placed curly wisps of hair softening her face.
A wreath of fresh flowers was clipped into place. It was truly breathtaking. White tiers of Chantilly lace, tulle and ribbons adorned her. There was a V-shaped neckline with delicate straps over her shoulders and satin ribbon wrapped around her waist. She truly looked like a Greek goddess.
Cover To Cover Cafe — Review. This is my first book by Jennifer Faye, and it most definitely will not be my last! I was hooked from page one, and taken on a whirl wind ride following these amazingly chiseled characters to the end. An Indie Adventure — Excerpt. But on this small island, places to wait for Popi were limited. And the wedding appeared to be taking place in a common area of the village. Apollo found himself standing off to the side. No one seemed to make a big deal of him being there. They acted as though he was just another wedding guest.
Some even shook his hand and greeted him.
